The best heated socks for most people are the ActionHeat 5V Rechargeable Heated Wool Socks at $159.99, with three settings and 4 to 8 hours per charge. The Muddy Nucleus costs less at $109.99. Lenz’s Heat Sock 5.1 kit is the premium pick at $444.95, and the Gobi Heat Roam adds a remote for $179.

Cold feet end a long sit in a deer stand faster than anything else. Winter barn chores and storm cleanup are the same story, with hours outside and no chance to warm up. I’ve put in enough of those days to care less about peak temperature than about whether the battery outlasts the job.

Quick picks by job

Heated Socks Comparison

Four pairs from four makers, all battery powered and all in stock at a US seller on October 18, 2026. Runtimes are the makers’ figures, listed low, medium and high where the maker gives them.

Prices come from Ski Barn for the ActionHeat, Lancaster Archery Supply for the Muddy, Ski Essentials for the Lenz and Gobi Heat’s own store for the Roam. Watt-hours are volts times amp-hours: 3.7 × 2.2 = 8.14 and 3.7 × 3.5 = 12.95. The Muddy voltage comes from Lancaster’s listing for Muddy’s 3.7V power bank. Lenz’s runtimes come from its heating-time chart for the rcB 1200 pack.

Heated Socks Cost

Dividing the price by the hours on one charge shows what an hour of heat costs on each setting. I used the low end of Lenz’s ranges, and the Roam only has one figure, so it gets one row.

Heated socksPriceArithmetic, low / medium / highCost per hour, low / medium / high
Muddy Nucleus$109.99109.99 ÷ 8, 5, 3.5$13.75 / $22.00 / $31.43
ActionHeat 5V Wool$159.99159.99 ÷ 8, 6, 4$20.00 / $26.67 / $40.00
Gobi Heat Roam$179.00179 ÷ 6 (best case)$29.83 at up to 6 h
Lenz Heat Sock 5.1 Toe Cap kit$444.95444.95 ÷ 10, 5.5, 3.5$44.50 / $80.90 / $127.13

This is the first charge only. Every pair gets recharged, so the real cost per hour falls with each use. It does show what you pay up front for each hour of heat, and Muddy leads. Lenz is the most expensive here on every setting. It also lists the longest runtime on its lowest level.

Do Heated Socks Work?

They add heat to your feet, within limits the makers state. ActionHeat lists panels on the top of the toes at 100, 120 and 140 °F on its three settings. Gobi Heat says the Roam heats up to 149 °F. Lenz’s toe cap heats from the top and the bottom, and the left and right socks can be set separately.

What they do not do is replace insulation. A heated sock on a thin, tight boot still has a cold sole and a cramped toe box. I’d pair any of these with wool socks where the maker allows it, and a boot with a little room.

ActionHeat 5V Wool: Best Overall

Ski Barn lists the ActionHeat 5V Rechargeable Heated Wool Socks at $159.99 with two batteries included. Each is a 3.7 V, 2.2 Ah lithium-polymer cell. The settings are high at 140 °F for 4 hours or more, medium at 120 °F for 6 or more, and low at 100 °F for 8 or more.

The socks go in the washing machine on a gentle cycle, but only inside the mesh bag in the box. That is the easiest care routine of the four. Skip it if you want one pair to last a full day on high. Its 4 hours is typical for this group.

Muddy Nucleus: Lowest Cost per Hour

Lancaster Archery Supply lists the Muddy Nucleus at $109.99. It has one 3,500 mAh battery per sock and a single heating element across the toes. Runtime is 8 hours on low, 5 on medium and 3.5 on high.

The bigger cell gives it the most watt-hours per battery of the two pairs where voltage is listed. Lancaster sells a two-pack of 3.7 V, 3,500 mAh Nucleus power banks for $49.99, listed for Muddy’s heated gloves and socks. Skip it if you need a published washing routine, because the listing does not give one.

Lenz 5.1 Toe Cap Kit: Longest Runtime on Low

Ski Essentials sells the Lenz Heat Sock 5.1 Toe Cap Slim Fit with two rcB 1200 batteries, a USB charger and a cable for $444.95. The socks are a merino-silk blend, and the packs sit at the cuff. You set heat on the pack in three levels or through Lenz’s app.

Lenz’s chart for the rcB 1200 in socks gives 10 to 14 hours on level 1, 5.5 to 7.5 on level 2 and 3.5 to 4.5 on level 3. The socks wash at 30 °C. Skip it if price is the deciding factor, since it costs nearly two and a half times the Gobi Heat Roam, the next most expensive pair here.

Gobi Heat Roam: Remote Control

Gobi Heat’s own store lists the Roam at $179.00. It has a single heating zone from toe to heel, three settings and a wireless remote, so you can change heat without bending down in a boot. The box has two rechargeable batteries, a remote and a charger, and Gobi Heat’s spec sheet lists 5,000 mAh.

The maker gives only one runtime, up to 6 hours, and no figure per setting. Remove the battery before washing, and the socks are machine washable. Skip it if you want per-setting hours before you buy. Gobi Heat recalled its rechargeable hand warmers, model UT3053, on October 1, 2026. That recall does not cover the Roam socks.

Heated Socks Battery Life

Battery life swings widely with the setting. ActionHeat’s low gives twice the hours of its high, and Muddy’s low gives more than twice the hours of its high. Lenz’s level 1 runs close to three times as long as its level 3 at the low end of each range.

Plan around the setting you will actually use. A morning in a deer stand on low fits inside the 8-hour figures from ActionHeat and Muddy. A long day on high does not fit any of these pairs without a spare battery.

Heated Socks vs Wool Socks

Wool needs no charger and never dies mid-shift. Heated socks add heat you can turn up. ActionHeat’s pair is itself a wool sock, and Lenz’s is a merino blend. So the choice is rarely one or the other.

For a walk to the mailbox, wool alone is plenty. For a long sit or a standing job in the cold, a heated pair earns its cost. Lined insulated snow boots do the same job from the outside, so I’d treat the two as a pair.

Heated Socks for Hunting

Hunting is where the runtime numbers matter most. A sit from before first light to mid-morning runs for hours, and you cannot move around to warm up. On low, the ActionHeat and Muddy pairs each list 8 hours.

Charge both batteries the night before, and carry a spare if you plan to run on medium. A cell that dies at the stand is the failure that matters.

Are Heated Socks Safe?

Heated socks have been recalled before, so it pays to check. For a battery and heating product like these, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and look for a UL or ETL listing on the charger or battery.

The recall notices below all describe burns or fire. Two cite friction, moisture and pressure during hard activity. The 2019 notice involved charging with a charger other than the one supplied, so use only the one in the box. Stop using any pack that looks damaged.

Recall Check for These Pairs

I searched the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall database on October 18, 2026. A search on the words heated socks returns three recalls. 32 Degrees heated socks sold at Costco were recalled in April 2026 for a burn hazard. Fieldsheer Apparel Technologies recalled heated socks, models MWMS07, MWWS07 and MWMS05, in August 2025 for burns and blisters. Tech Gear 5.7 recalled Mobile Warming Performance Heated Socks in March 2019 for fire and burn hazards when charged with the wrong charger.

Mobile Warming is Fieldsheer’s heated clothing line, and the 2025 recall covers its merino wool socks, so I left Mobile Warming socks out of this roundup. Searches on ActionHeat, Lenz and Muddy found no sock recalls. Gobi Heat recalled about 5,500 of its rechargeable hand warmers, model UT3053, on October 1, 2026, because the battery can overheat and catch fire. The notice covers only the hand warmers, not the Roam socks. If you own the hand warmers, read the notice at cpsc.gov, and see our guide to rechargeable hand warmers for what to check on any battery warmer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Heated Socks

How long do the batteries last on one charge?

On low, the makers list 8 hours for the ActionHeat and Muddy pairs and 10 to 14 for the Lenz. On high it drops to 4 hours for the ActionHeat, 3.5 for the Muddy and 3.5 to 4.5 for the Lenz. Gobi Heat lists up to 6 hours for the Roam without naming a setting.

Can you wash heated socks?

Mostly yes, with the battery out. ActionHeat says machine wash on a gentle cycle in the mesh bag it supplies. Lenz says machine washable at 30 °C, and Gobi Heat says to remove the battery and machine wash. Lancaster’s Muddy listing gives no washing instructions, so check the box.

Do heated socks come with batteries?

Yes. ActionHeat, Lenz and Gobi Heat each list two batteries in the box, and Gobi Heat adds a remote. Lancaster lists one 3,500 mAh battery per sock for the Muddy.

Can you wear these pairs all day?

Only on low, and only with a spare battery. The longest listed runtime is 14 hours for the Lenz on level 1, and the other low settings stop at 8 hours. On high, every pair with a listed high-setting figure is done in under 5 hours.

Which Heated Socks Should You Buy?

I’d start with the ActionHeat 5V Rechargeable Heated Wool Socks at $159.99. It lists the clearest runtimes, a plain washing routine and two batteries. If cost per hour matters most, the Muddy Nucleus at $109.99 comes out cheapest on every setting where the makers give hours.

Lenz is for anyone who wants 10 to 14 hours on low and will pay $444.95 for it. The Gobi Heat Roam suits a person who wants a remote and full-foot heat, as long as one runtime figure is enough for you.
