This is informational only and isn’t medical advice. Collagen supplements are not evaluated by the FDA to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, and nothing below replaces care from a licensed physician or registered dietitian. Talk to a doctor before starting any new supplement, especially if you’re pregnant, nursing, taking prescription medication, or managing a medical condition.

Collagen supplements aren’t really a purchase. They’re a standing order. The first tub gets chosen the way anything gets chosen: the ingredient list, the reviews, the number on the shelf tag. Every container after that just turns up, because the last one ran out and you’re in the habit now. I’ve watched enough supplement routines settle in, my own included, to know almost nobody rereads the label after bottle one.
Which Two Numbers Matter Most for Collagen Supplements?
This page is about the two numbers that decide what owning one of these is actually like: how much collagen is in a serving, and how many times a year you have to buy another container. On the first, Sports Research Organic Collagen Peptides, NeoCell Super Collagen + Vitamin C, and Vital Proteins Collagen Gummies land inside the dose range the published trials used, and Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides lands well above it. Codeage Multi Collagen Protein Capsules can’t be placed at all, because Codeage doesn’t publish a total. Vitauthority Super Collagen Gummies sit at 200 milligrams, a third of the smallest daily dose in the review I used. Vitauthority’s own store won’t currently sell you a bottle outright.
None of these seven products has been opened at this desk. What I did was read every supplement facts panel and product page on the makers’ own stores this morning. I priced each one there rather than at a marketplace, and set the label doses against two systematic reviews of the clinical literature. Where a number isn’t published, I’ve said so rather than filling the hole with a guess. Our editorial standards page explains how that works across the site.
What Dose Do Clinical Trials on Collagen Supplements Use?
Collagen has no daily value, because it isn’t an essential nutrient, so there’s no official number on a label to compare against. What exists instead is the dose range the researchers actually used. Pu and colleagues, writing in Nutrients in 2023, pooled 26 randomized controlled trials covering 1,721 participants. The daily doses across those trials ran from 0.6 grams to 12 grams. Most interventions fell between 2.5 and 10 grams. Supplementation lasted 2 to 12 weeks, and the authors split their subgroups at the 8-week mark.
What Did a 2026 Review of Collagen Supplements Find?
A more recent systematic review, published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition on June 24, 2026, went through 25 trials. It reported skin hydration improved against placebo in 10 of 15 trials that measured it. Elasticity improved in 10 of 13.
Those counts are the honest version of the claim: most trials found something, not all of them. The 2026 authors close by asking for longer and better-powered studies. Still, the 0.6-to-12-gram band is a real measuring stick. It puts these seven labels in an order nothing on the front of the bottle would suggest. Collagen amounts below are grams in one labeled serving.
| Product | Format | Collagen in one serving | Against the 0.6–12 g used in the 26 trials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides | Powder, 1 scoop | 20 | 8 g above the highest dose used |
| Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Advanced | Powder, 1 scoop | 20 | 8 g above the highest dose used |
| Sports Research Organic Collagen Peptides | Powder, 1 scoop | 10 | Inside the band, at the top of the common 2.5–10 g range |
| NeoCell Super Collagen + Vitamin C | 6 tablets | 6 | Inside the band, mid-range |
| Vital Proteins Collagen Gummies | 4 gummies | 2.5 | Inside the band, at the floor of the common range |
| Vitauthority Super Collagen Gummies | 2 gummies | 0.2 | One third of the smallest dose used |
| Codeage Multi Collagen Protein Capsules | 3 capsules | Not published | Cannot be placed |
How Do These Doses Compare to What’s on Store Shelves?
Run it the other way and it gets starker. To reach 2.5 grams, the bottom of the range most of those trials used, you need one serving of the Vital Proteins gummies, or three NeoCell tablets, or a quarter of a scoop of the Sports Research powder. Or 25 Vitauthority gummies, which is twelve and a half servings and empties a 30-gummy bottle in a day and a bit. To reach 10 grams you need one Sports Research scoop, ten NeoCell tablets, sixteen Vital Proteins gummies, or half a scoop of either Vital Proteins powder.
Two things follow, and they point in opposite directions. The gummy category is not one dose expressed two ways; it is a twelve-fold spread hiding behind the same word. The biggest powder scoop here is not a bargain in disguise either. Twenty grams is 8 grams past anything the 2023 review’s trials tested, so a good chunk of every scoop is dose nobody in that literature has studied. That is not the same as saying it’s harmful. It means you’re paying for grams that have no evidence attached, and half a scoop would put you exactly at the top of the studied range for half the money.
How Long Does a Bottle of Collagen Supplements Last?
Which brings up the second number, the one the standing order is actually made of. Every one of these products publishes a serving size and a container count, so how long a container lasts is exact arithmetic, not a guess. Only three of the seven come out at 30 days. Days below assume one labeled serving a day, and containers a year is 365 divided by that.
| Product | What’s in a container | Servings | Days a container lasts | Containers in a year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NeoCell Super Collagen + Vitamin C | 250 tablets | 41.7 | 41.7 | 8.8 |
| Sports Research Organic Collagen Peptides | 300 g powder | 30 | 30 | 12.2 |
| Codeage Multi Collagen Protein Capsules | 90 capsules | 30 | 30 | 12.2 |
| Vital Proteins Collagen Gummies | 120 gummies | 30 | 30 | 12.2 |
| Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides | 19.3 oz powder | 28 | 28 | 13.0 |
| Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Advanced | 20 oz powder | 28 | 28 | 13.0 |
| Vitauthority Super Collagen Gummies | 30 gummies | 15 | 15 | 24.3 |
The Vital Proteins tubs are the quiet annoyance. Twenty-eight servings is close enough to a month that you’ll believe it’s a month, and then twice a year you get an extra reorder you didn’t plan for. Thirteen tubs a year at $27.00 is $351.96. NeoCell goes the other way. Six tablets a day out of a 250-count bottle is 41 days of supply, so you buy it nine times a year, and nine bottles at $22.21 is $194.56. That is the cheapest year on this page by a wide margin, and it belongs to the pill nobody wants to swallow six of.
Why Are Vitauthority’s Collagen Supplements the Priciest Here?
Vitauthority is the outlier. Two gummies a day out of a 30-gummy bottle is fifteen days, so a year is a little over 24 bottles, and 24.3 bottles at $19.99 is $486.42. You would be reordering a collagen supplement roughly every other Tuesday, for the least collagen on this page.
The Powders: 20 Grams a Scoop, and Two Tubs With Nearly the Same Name
Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, reordered thirteen times a year
Twenty grams of hydrolyzed Type I and III bovine collagen a scoop, 28 servings to a 19.3-ounce tub, $27.00 on Vital Proteins’ own store as of today. It dissolves without much grit in hot or cold liquid, which is most of why it’s the one people stick with. There’s a naming trap worth watching for: Vital Proteins also sells Collagen Peptides Advanced, which is the same 20 grams plus 120 milligrams of hyaluronic acid and 100% of the daily value of vitamin C, at $29.99. Two nearly identical tubs, one letter of difference on the shelf, sit about $39 apart over a year of reordering.
I’ll add that Vital Proteins’ own pages disagree about what $29.99 buys. The Advanced product page shows a 20-ounce tub at that price; the Advanced collection page shows a 10-ounce one. I couldn’t reconcile that from outside the company, so check the size at checkout rather than trusting either page.

Skip this if you take your supplement in plain water. Owner reviews of unflavored bovine powders return to the same complaint, a faint savory or gelatin note that coffee and fruit hide and water does not. Skip it too if the 8 grams past the studied range bothers you and you don’t want to be measuring half scoops.
Sports Research Collagen Supplements: 12 Reorders a Year
Ten grams a scoop, 30 scoops in a 300-gram bag, $30.95 on Sports Research’s own store, in stock today. That price is down from $35.95 earlier this year. What you’re buying for the difference is paperwork, and unusually good paperwork: USDA Organic, IGEN non-GMO tested, NSF certified gluten-free, and Informed Choice tested for banned substances, all listed on the maker’s page. It is the only product here whose 10-gram serving sits exactly at the top of the range most of the 2023 trials used. That makes it the easiest one to reason about.
Skip this if the certifications don’t mean anything to you. You are paying about $3.95 more a container than the Vital Proteins tub for half the collagen in a scoop. If organic sourcing isn’t a line item in your decision, that’s a hard trade to defend.
Collagen Supplements in Tablets and Capsules
NeoCell Super Collagen + Vitamin C, reordered nine times a year
NeoCell’s own store now sells the tablets as a 250-count bottle at $22.21, up from a 120-count at $12.20 earlier this year. The brand is midway through renaming the line; the store page still lives at a Super Collagen address but the product on it reads as Grassfed Collagen Peptides + C. Six tablets is a 6-gram serving of Type I and III bovine collagen with vitamin C, which lands mid-band. At 41 days a bottle it is the least frequent reorder here and the cheapest year, $194.56, roughly 40% of what the Vitauthority gummies would run you.

Skip this if you are pill-averse or already swallowing a handful of other things at breakfast. Six tablets is a genuine ask, and the cost advantage evaporates the moment you start skipping days because you can’t face it.
Codeage Multi Collagen Protein Capsules, reordered twelve times a year
Five collagen types, I, II, III, V and X, come from grass-fed bovine, free-range chicken bone broth, hydrolyzed fish peptides and eggshell membrane, plus organic ashwagandha and amla berry, at $34.99 for 30 servings of three capsules. That is a genuinely broader formula than anything else here. Type II from chicken sources is the joint-oriented one the bovine powders don’t carry.
What Codeage does not publish, on the product page or on its own highlights page, is a total collagen weight for that serving. I looked at both. So the only product on this page with the most interesting formula is also the only one I cannot put on either table above. At $425.71 a year it’s the most expensive twelve months here. Not knowing the dose is not evidence the dose is bad. It does mean you’re buying on the ingredient list alone.
Skip this if matching a studied dose is any part of why you’re taking collagen. You cannot do it with this bottle, because the number isn’t there.
The Gummies: 2.5 Grams in One, 0.2 in the Other
Vital Proteins Collagen Gummies, reordered twelve times a year
Four gummies deliver 2.5 grams of Verisol collagen peptides, 120 gummies to a bottle, $16.99 list on Vital Proteins’ store and $12.75 on sale there today. That 2.5 grams is exactly the floor of the range most of the 2023 trials used, which makes this the only gummy on this page that reaches a studied dose at its labeled serving. Vital Proteins describes Verisol as clinically tested; that’s the maker’s characterization of its own ingredient and I’m passing it along as a label claim, not as something I checked against the trials.
Skip this if you’re limiting added sugar. Gummies need sugar to be palatable and the amount varies by flavor; read the nutrition panel on the flavor you’re actually buying, because I did not find one consistent figure published across the range.
Vitauthority Collagen Supplements: 24 Reorders a Year
This is the loser of the group and it isn’t close. Two gummies carry 200 milligrams of Type I and III collagen alongside biotin, vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc — a multivitamin with a collagen line item, essentially, and priced at $19.99 for a 30-gummy bottle that lasts fifteen days. Two hundred milligrams is a third of the 0.6-gram floor of the 2023 review’s trials and 8% of what the Vital Proteins gummy delivers. To match that gummy you would eat 25 of these a day.
There’s an ownership problem on top of the dose. As of today Vitauthority’s own store shows the product sold out for a one-time purchase; the price that remains available is the $14.99 VIP subscription rate. A supplement your routine depends on, that its own maker will currently only sell you on a recurring plan, is a different proposition from one you can go buy.
Skip this if collagen is the reason you’re buying it. If you want the biotin-and-zinc blend and treat the collagen as a rounding error, the arithmetic changes; buy it as a multivitamin and judge it as one.
What the 2023 Costco Recall Covered, and What It Didn’t
Since the Vital Proteins powder is the highest-dose product here, the recall record is worth stating precisely rather than leaving to rumor. On June 14, 2023, Vital Proteins voluntarily recalled 24-ounce canisters of Collagen Peptides sold at Costco in 20 states and Puerto Rico, after pieces of a broken blue lid were found to have possibly entered canisters. Good Morning America’s report named the affected stock as batch code 30095993HA with a best-by date of January 9, 2028; NBC News put the figure at more than 59,700 canisters and reported no injuries.
That was one batch, one container size, one retailer, three years ago. It is not an open recall and it does not attach to the tubs on sale today. I searched for current recalls covering all seven products and found none; the only 2026 collagen recall I could locate was a Class II action on July 1, 2026 against Mellish Island Super Skin capsules, sold through TikTok Shop, for failing to declare that the marine collagen source was fish. That product is not in this roundup and shares no maker with anything in it.
Which Collagen Supplements Should You Buy?
If you can swallow six tablets, take the NeoCell. It puts you mid-band on dose, it’s the fewest trips back to the checkout, and at $194.56 it’s the cheapest year here: $157.40 under the Vital Proteins tub and $182.00 under the Sports Research bag. If six tablets is a non-starter and you drink coffee anyway, the Sports Research powder is the cleanest reasoning on the page. One scoop, 10 grams, is exactly the top of the range the trials used, with no half-measuring and no leftover grams. The Vital Proteins powder is the right answer only if you want the 20 grams deliberately, or you intend to take half a scoop and get a two-month tub out of it. That’s a perfectly good plan nobody prints on the label.
Gummies are the format people actually keep taking. If that’s you, take the Vital Proteins one and don’t look at the other. Codeage is a real formula sold behind a missing number. If the five types are what you want, buy it knowing you’ve opted out of comparing the dose to anything.
Whatever you land on, the trials that found anything ran longer than eight weeks. On a 28-day tub, that’s three reorders before you have any business judging whether it did something. Plan the reordering first and the rest is easier.

Other stuff that turns out to be relevant: we’ve priced out magnesium supplements for sleep and stress, and if collagen is part of a broader skin-and-hair plan, our look at scalp care serums and treatments covers the topical half of it. If you’re early in all this, the supplement starter kit covers what most people reach for first, and the full vitamins and supplements shelf has the rest.
